Everything. The way he talks, the way he moves All I want for Christmas is Tommy Shelby shirt, sweater and most importantly his authority. The fact that he is a well-known gangster who walks about the streets of Birmingham without being prosecuted for his crimes, makes him different from all the other men in the show. His power and use of words and ‘strategies’ play a big role in getting him to sleep with nearly every female protagonist. Right from the first episode when Tommy makes an appearance on his horse with cigarette in his mouth and people hiding from him, you can tell he’s not like the other men. You spot Alpha men, because that’s what makes them Alpha. The horse had an infection that could not be treated. It was painful but needed. By killing the loved animal it saved it from a painful death and stopped the infection from spreading to other animals. The killing is a metaphor for the coming need to kill the traitor, likely in the family.

Most of the characters on Peaky Blinders have their share of demons, but I think All I want for Christmas is Tommy Shelby shirt, sweater Paul Anderson, who plays poor tormented Arthur Shelby, is the most convincing. Tommy Shelby is all ice (a dreadful, glassy eyed cold fish, if you ask me) whereas Arthur is all fire. He scorches everything in his wake. A loose cannon that frequently sees his life in flames caused by a fire he lit himself. His performance is the most electric and, for me, the most believable. Plus, he is one of the only cast members to make a decent stab at the Brum accent. If you listen to the others, you wouldn’t be able to tell where the fuck they’re from; the accents are all over the show, from sounding Irish to even Scouse; I’m looking at you Polly Shelby. Anderson’s physicality lends itself well to the character too, the gravel voice and weather worn face. He looks like a man who’s seen a thing or two. His body is slight, lean and sinewy; you’d imagine being as mad as a march hare burns calories. Shenanigans keep you trim. You get the sense of a man strung out on his last nerve, with his frantic frenetic energy.
